The club has come a long way since Sawston Men’s Hockey Club – followed shortly afterwards by the Ladies’ club – was forced in the mid-90s to relocate from the village playing fields into the city in order to play its games on the newly-mandatory astroturf surface, later changing its name to reflect its new home.
Two men’s teams plus a veterans’ side and a single ladies’ team (as in we only had one ladies’ team, not that all the ladies’ in the team were single. Although they could have been; our records are silent on the matter), scrapping around in the lower divisions, have blossomed into ten sides climbing steadily up the leagues. The animations below show the relative progression of the club teams’ final league positions over the seasons since.
