Winner winner chicken dinner

Becky Wager

Sun was shining on Saturday morning and L4s and Newmarket 2s were ready to play some hockey. After fighting for parking spaces and getting lost in the maze of changing rooms we headed to the pitch to warm up.
The whistle blew and we were off! We were immediately playing some good attacking hockey with Alex, Liv, Becky, Grace and Cat making some great opportunities for the forwards and fab positioning from the team lead to good triangle passing and quick movements in the D. We quickly all realised that it was very hot!
Our first goal was after quick succession to the start as Liv pushed it bottom left corner, stunner! Newmarket had a few breaks towards our goal but nothing our amazing defence couldn’t handle. Another awesome goal from Mo set up nicely with the other forwards help. Newmarket had some more opportunities to test Shree, Nic, Anne and Ell but were unsuccessful even with a short awarded to them.
That wrapped up the first half and we all headed to the goal for some much needed water and inspiring Shree words.

The second half brought even more goals and fighting hard from both teams. Alex scored her first cracker by smacking it past the keepers pads. Then shortly after that a well deserved goal from Amelia after a Newmarket foot gave us a penalty flick which the keeper amazingly saved Amelia’s first go at goal. Next another from Alex straight into the net which lead to a very late celebration and realisation from the rest of South! Emily put another one across the line through one of the Newmarket players who unfortunately put a foot in front of the shot. And bringing it to 7-0 in the end was a beautiful drive in and pass to the P spot by Cat to be finished off by Bex - text book!
Overall a great effort from both South and Newmarket 2s on a weird hot day in March leaving L4s very proud indeed.

The unexplainable appearance and disappearance of Grace earned her a few Lom votes as well as Ell for forgetting she needed a stick to play and for the whole team for not realising we had scored.
Cat came out with player of the match from her great play in the middle and opportunity making. Cracking effort from the whole team awarded with very bready papa johns pizza.
