Almost…

John Greaves

We came, we tried, we scored.

Then it was half time.

Then they scored twice.

Which was enough to win a tight scrap.

The Cambridge South youngsters, with man of the match Tom Steed skillfull and fearless, provided the energy.

The defence, under the command of Rock Radford, kept everything out in the first half and after the break were unlucky to concede one from a short corner melee, and the eventual winner off a one-in-a-thousand rebound off a post.

Shahbaz's goal was well deserved after a period of home pressure. It came from some sensible passing and calmness in the Long Sutton D from himself and Simon Frampton, ending with Shahbaz slotting the ball into the goal from close to the penalty sot.

Everyone played their part and South never gave up, but apart from that scoring occasion we were unable to keep sufficient control in the final third of the pitch to get that killer pass, control the long ball, or create more chances. It was pleasing to see robust harrying and tackling from the whole team, surprising the Long sutton players, and many decent moves up the pitch achieved though good positioning, use of the width of the pitch, and running off the ball to be available to receive it.

But in the end it was not quite enough to hold on for a result.

It was sunny, though.
