Another Battling Performance

John Greaves

The familiar story of the 4th team battling hard against an opposition who just had too much firepower, in this case a couple of canny and experienced March forwards previously used to playing at much higher levels.

In spite of the home team's best efforts, March got four goals in the first half, all from one of the aforementioned deadly duo, mainly with unstoppable shots from an angle.

The second half was more even, with the goals shared. Skipper John Greaves got our first, from a well worked short corner routine, guiding a James Siddorns rasper past the keeper. This almost made up for a glaring miss at the end of the first half - that is missing the ball completely from a neat Phil Harvey cross with the open goal in front of him. Greaves's excuse was something about, "I was looking at the keeper to see which way he was diving.” Hmmmmm.

March then got another before Man of the Match, Tom Steed, pounced on the ball at the top of the D after a Cambridge South short corner to hit it through various legs and bodies into the goal.

Even though March got the final goal, this was a fairly even game and the 4ths can be pleased with many good passing moves, intelligent running and increasingly confident interplay, backed up by the usual stout defence.

Tom Steed
Player of the Match

Skill, energy, commitment. It took a bang on the ankle to stop him.
