Pelican’ts

Carly Brown

A group of slightly sore heads assembled ready for our trek up to King's Lynn to take on the mighty Pelicans. Thanks to a detailed set of diversion directions from Jan, all three cars, filled to capacity, made it in good time. Despite the lack of personal space en route, bags full of cheese puffs and various assorted snacks kept us happy and provided hearty pre-match sustenance.

The pitch quickly took on the appearance of a battlefield, with sticks, elbows and limbs flying about, earning Robyn a green card and Carly, a.k.a. Tiger Woods a.k.a. the South Swinger, the Lemon title. Not bitter though, cos she still scored, off the rebound of a great shot from Flix to bring us to one-all.

The second half featured questionable aerials and a frustrating lack of ability to convert again despite having the majority of the possession. Hannah, the forever-consistent powerhouse at the back, hampered several of Pelican’s nippy little forwards’ attempts at goal, earning herself MoM, but unfortunately even Loopy’s solid efforts couldn’t help another two slipping over the line to bring the final score to three-one. A little deflated and bashed about, we traipsed off the pitch sporting many fresh open wounds.

After temperamental showers and good old sausage rolls we called it a day and were left considering how we were going to build up a winning streak of more than one game.
