A great team performance from South L5s in an enjoyable and evenly matched game. With a well planned and practiced short corner routine, we were feeling confident. Excellent passing and running gave South several attempts on goal but we couldn’t quite find the target. Attacks at the other end were foiled by Nicole’s ever-determined tackles and interceptions, and powerful clearances from Lucy. We had a few opportunities to try out the various short corner routines, often getting close to a goal. Unfortunately Lou spoilt one of these by standing with her toe touching the top of the D line so Anna the injector was sent to the half way line. Oops.

In our half time team talk we realised we needed to tighten up on our press and in the second half we did just that. With the score 0-0 at half time we were feeling confident. Unfortunately Newmarket broke through in the second half to get a shot into the South goal. We stayed positive, one goal in it and continued to play well as a team with good passes and diagonal runs. The sun came out and a moment later Claudia’s hard work in midfield was rewarded with a fantastic equalising goal after she received a pass from Liz and struck it spot on. Newmarket managed to regain the lead and it ended with a narrow defeat.

An enjoyable game and only a very narrow defeat - the next win is just around the corner!

For being a little too keen to start a short corner, meaning Anna was banished to the half way line!
