Beers Taste Better When You're Winning

Tom Blair

We start our story on the day of the social, what an exciting beginning.
Gearing up to take three points, as beers taste better when you’re winning.

Heading towards Fort Long Road, ready to seize our chance.
Mr Marchant was so excited, he even treated us to a little dance.
Nikesh’s moustache creepy as ever, but still the chat was strong.
But still we must remain focused, we cannot risk going wrong.
Hoping to do our captain proud as the afternoon light began dimming.
As even while vacant, Menzies knew, beers taste better when you’re winning.

Without much waiting the match began, South coming out strong.
Aggressive attacks and winning shorts, we knew a goal wouldn’t take long.
After some strong link up play, some good presses, we won our first short.
Now stand in captain Shin stepped up. ‘I shall flick one,’ he did retort.
The flick was strong, straight into the net, leaving the VC grinning.
All this time in our heads knowing, beers taste better when you’re winning.

Again we pushed, keen for a second, another short was won.
Shin stepped up, ready again. ‘I can definitely get more than one.’
He was right, fired in a second much to the team’s delight.
We couldn’t get cocky the game had just started, we still had to finish the fight.
Inspired by Shin, Tom Blair stepped up, keen to show off his pace.
Move fast he did right up to the D, before landing square on his face.
Fingers bleeding, pride damaged, the fall had left his head spinning.
Only consoled by the beautiful fact that beers taste better when you’re winning.

The game went on, attacks continued, Tom Marchant scored from a good run.
Unfortunately they answered back, making the score three-one.
Another strong play and a great strike from Bhav added a fourth to our goals.
The half time whistle blew, the team grouped up and discussed our second half roles.
‘Keep hitting them hard’, ‘Play fast and smart’, ‘Jack Chalk, go try some spinning.’
And of course remember by the end of the night, beers taste better when you’re winning.

The second half was less eventful, not South’s best performance.
But still we were solid, defending their shots, we wouldn’t let them have a chance.
Keen for redemption after some shocking plays, Blair finally got his goal.
That being said, he still got lemon, he’d already dug his hole.
Man of the match went to Pete for stepping up to the plate.
A quick teas were had before heading out, the social was starting, we couldn’t be late.
The boys could rest easy with another win and truly enjoy their drinks.
Lets have some laughs, enjoy ourselves. ‘This night could be loose,’ methinks.
A top notch night, all the lads, great banter, chants and singing.
And always remember whomever you are, beers taste better when you’re winning.

He was definitely Blair, but where was the flair... the opponent's goal was safest when he had possession
