The Day We Won the League in Style

Liz Dunsby

Spirits were high going into Saturday’s match – was this the day that CSHC L4s would win the league?

The match started well, with Tess scoring early to put South into the lead. This gave South a massive boost and we went on to play very well during the first half. South were very much the dominant side. Huntingdon had a few breaks with their quick forwards breaking through. Thanks to the good defensive work of South, they didn’t manage to score. Emily scored a very chilled ‘reverse dink’ mid-way through the first half, giving South a two-nil lead. Huntingdon did put up a good fight in the first half.

The half time team talk was very much keep up the good work and score some more… And we did just that…!

Much like the first half, Tess managed to score a very quick goal within a few minutes. However, not long after, Huntingdon managed to break though the South defence and score their only goal of the match. For a short time after, South started playing a bit more defensively until we realised that that was just a blip in what was a strong performance from South. With a renewed sense of confidence, Naomi went on to score the next goal. Towards the end of the match Huntingdon were finding it difficult to get the ball out of their twenty-three thanks to the great press from the South side blocking their hit outs. We went on to score three more goals – two from Emily (including an impressive top corner ball) and another one from Naomi.

South gave a cracking performance against a strong Huntingdon side. The whole team felt that we played very well. MoM was awarded to Tess for some great runs, great crosses into the D and two great goals. LoM was awarded to Liz as she completely left her brain in bed and couldn’t remember anyone’s names to write the team sheet.

We are all excited to go into Div 4 as the winners of Div 5!
