Just in the Nick of Time

Sooo in case you didn’t know, THE LADIES 3S ARE PROMOTED! When turning up to the pitch we all had one thing on our minds…one point equals promotion. We went and bagged all three just to be on the safe side with a four-nil win over Nomads.

The game started and right from the whistle South were attacking, and within a mater of seconds were already in the opposition’s circle. Tackles coming in from Nomads players made it hard for South to get a goal in and the ball was soon hit down to the other end of the pitch. South were putting into practice what they had learnt all season, with Jess and Hannah making amazing steps in front of Nomad players to turn over posession. With this the ball was getting closer and closer to the attacking D. The ball was hit in and sent wide of the post. South continued to attack, winning balls confidently from Nomad hit outs. Back into the D again and a square pass from myself to Irina on the penalty spot, Irina then sending it into the goal. One-nil South.

Nomads begun to attack but the ball was soon back in South’s possession, Jas and Tabby making wonderful runs up the pitch. The ball was carried down the right side and hit into the D by Rhi. Time to whip out another coaching point this season…deflections (and I hear you ask, our coach must have been proud to see his hard work coming together… James was still yet to show). A deflection from myself saw South go two-nil up. With more efforts from both sides (defiantly more one side to us), the half finished. The captains were quick to be called over and told off for breaking the rules on being five metres and ‘loopy’ balls (which captain Rhi didn’t understand – it meant lifted).

The second half started and South were quick to retrieve the ball from a Nomad push back. A squeal from Lucy B as a lifted ball was played but this worked to our advantage and even more turnover of balls allowed South to attack. Though it always worked both way and Nomads had come out harder this half and were more attacking. Hannah took a ball to the face but in her normal style ended up laughing it off. South were able to gain possession quickly from turnovers and soon a third goal came from Rhi (after she returned from her start of second half toilet break). Three-nil to South.

At this point we were sure the three points were in the bag but South knew more goals could be put past Nomads. After a succession of penalty corners a fourth and final goal came for South. I have no idea how but a shot from me from the top of the D actually went in! The last ten minutes saw Nomads try tirelessly to get a goal but South defenders Hannah, Laurie, Lucy, Bella and Jess, and keeper Loopy, kept them at bay. Captain Rhi ,not to get outdone by Hannah on the injury front, thought she’d use her bum instead of her stick to stop a lifted ball. The final whistle went and stick taps all around. South 3s are promoted with another win.

Forgetting if she'd shut her front door, late to training for her fish and self time in the changing room.
