A Captains farewell

Connor Grant

Incase you haven't heard I am sadly set to leave the club in the next few weeks hence my stepping down to allow Shin to show me how it should be done, best of luck to you!

Anyways enough about me, the 3s had a rare league game on Saturday with all the droputs from our league actually getting a game is a rarity nowadays. Playing City can always lead to tricky games but we were confident as they had only mustered 1 point this season. Clearly some players viewed that as an opportunity to have a few beers the night before (Ali, Blair I'm looking at you)...

Unusually I turned up sober without an ounce of alcohol in my body ready for a local derby. The pre match predictions did however appear optimistic as we struggled to break through early on, safe to say we were more lacklustre than United under Ole recently! We eventually got a goal through Jack Chalk I'd love to tell you more about it but I'm still very unfit so was busy catching my breath....

We viewed this as an opportunity to push on and we did to no avail our shot count starting to look more like a cricket score all for one goal! City fought valiantly, their keeper in fine form and so was ours except for the lucky escape when Matt took out their forward through on goal but was adjudged to be fair...

South started to get desperate until the man of the hour stepped up. Tom Blair, the man who never scores went on a mazy run getting past 4 or 5 or 6 of their players before meeting the onrushing goalie! With Ali and Jack rushing in to support any sensible player would square it for an easy tap in but Blair wasn't done, he rounded the keeper to score a sublime solo effort!

The second half was much the same with South conceding an unlucky goal only for Joe to tidily finish a sweeping move by Josh down the left who kept running all game!

A big shout-out to Bhav and Anns for having a solid game at the back, Bhav even taught their resident junior player a thing or 2 (maybe don't run rings around the 12 year old out the way next time!)

All in all it was a solid win for South on a day the top 2 dropped points, 2 massive games coming up, if we win both who knows maybe promotion is back on the cards...
