CSHC 3’s 3 -1 COPHC 5’s

A BIG game. One we had to win to keep our winning run going and keep us sniffing around promotion spots like Shin Wu sniffing out the opportunity for another Lola’s social.

At last we have had chance over the last couple of weeks to actually play in a competitive game. Friendlies are just a tad dull let’s be honest.

Unfortunately, it was in Peterborough - never a highlight on the beauty spots of UK calendar it must be admitted. However, Shin was VERY excited about the prospect of a Maccie D’s on the way - inspiring leadership and setting the tone as always…and then missing the turn off (no comment). His knight in shining armour was Joe, arriving to his adoring captain with apple pie in hand and cementing his starting place in the team. Joes wife also seemed delighted to be there with us for the day…standing in the cold wind in Peterborough having been treated to a Maccies on the way. Who said romance is dead?!!

Onto the game and it was a classic PB away fixture, never easy. In honesty, it was a bit of a scrappy first half with some newish (and old!) faces in the team meaning we were a tad disjointed at times - more Morinhos Chelsea than the usual sumptuous and silky Brazilian style hockey we normally play ;-). We worked hard together though and as usual everyone put a shift in. A simple short corner goal from George sent us into half team in the lead. We had squandered a few big opportunities and just had to keep our heads going into the second.

The second half was a tad more eventful, with an equaliser goal from PB meaning we had to continue to graft and believe in ourselves as true promotion contenders. George randomly had a goal disallowed (for which the umpire later apologised for - AFTER the game it should be added). Walsh then went on to break a rib or two in his efforts and Anns got into a sarcastic argument with the umpire and behind-the-goal Peterborough team. Normal service resumed then!

Finally we unlocked things, scored a flick and then a superbly directed deflection from the Apple Pie hero himself, Joe. 3-1 and job done.

Get In, Get the W, Get the hell out. Another classic PB away trip done and on we roll!
