M2s vs Kettering 1s

Ali Hart

On the 5th March, the mighty 2s turned up to defend our long road fortress from the invasion of the cantankerous Kettering boys. Although we had some fresh faces in our ranks, with many of our noble knights being pillaged by the mens 1s for a cheeky quickie.

Prior to the starting cannons, I got the privilege of holding back Nicks hair as he spewed his guts on the field, leaving a distinct exotic taste of Lambini. Perhaps next time, he should opt for a slightly nicer beverage before staining the pitch.

When starting cannons were released, we were all hungry for the win and the glorious 3 points. Especially Nick, who’s bowls were completely drained. After some beautiful quick fluid passing, we were clearly the dominant team with many wayward chances at the back post. That is until Creepy Creedy managed to dispatch a corker of goal from half a foot out!!

Unfortunately the Kettering boys were awarded short after short. Sadly they were able to find a weakness in our armour as Matt gaping legs proved no match the pearoller that trickled between his legs! Following this I received a floated Ariel [ed - the M2s are impressive multi-taskers apparently...] that glided high up in the sky, only to finally come down and play a game of conkers with personal bean bag.

As half time emerged, we received some inspiring words of advice from perfect Paul which left everyone raring to go! This was particularly evident for our skipper, as Pudds then decided to pin a man against the fence. Clearly this wasn’t his first time! Upfront there was Olly, who was another standout performer on the day, Who’s aerial ability was also somewhat questionable. Some say, he could have been using a pool noodle and it honestly wouldn’t have a made a difference.

As the match progressed, our youngest player Harrison who only sat his GCSE’s a few days before, showed to be on top form with superb skills and passing. It was shame I was unable to replicate this, as they later beat me in a two on one to get the winning goal. Once the final whistle blew, it was certainly a tough loss to receive. Although we can take pride and comfort in the fact that we had lost to them 7-1 at the start of the season. Thus portraying our significant development in recent months!!
