Just about enough

Vincent Maffet

It felt hot at Wisbech, both on pitch and in the game. South got up to a good start, applying last Monday’s training lessons on upgrading. After a well oiled short-corner routine, Sev hit the backboard to give the boys in purple the lead.

Confidence grew, maybe a bit too much. Wisbech hit on the break following a short short-corner injection and equalized the score.

Feeling the heat, South upped the team play. Great running and passing from Henry was the spark we needed to get the ball back in front of their goal, and Jordan finished the job.

Re-energized, the forwards put pressure on Wisbech defenders straight from push-back. A little confusion between their sweeper and left-back allowed Vincent to steal the ball, enter the D and smash it past the keeper. Confidence was high again, but Wisbech found a clever short-corner variation and scored again less than a minute before half-time.

After inspiring talks on commitment during half-time we got on the pitch again. Commit we did with James and Jordan earning a green card. However, defense remained strong and was able to hold the fort. Wisbech did equalize, but it did not matter. Roland was unleashed in the midfield. He dribbled through multiple people and got into the D with a clever 1-2 pass. The ball found its way over the line and South did not falter again.
