L1 3-2 Wisbech Town Ladies 1

Annie Macdonald

Wet wet wet - 3 goals. 3 cards. 3 times lemon.*

A rearranged game from December due to their pitch being frozen at 2pm in the afternoon when it was 7°C. However we’re not angry, we’ve built a BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER.

Meet time: 11:30
Arrival time: 12:00. Sorry Robyn, it’s part of Annie’s personality, fashionably late.**
Weather report: HERE COMES THE RAIN.

Dressed in purple. We weren’t YELLOW SUBMARINES, we weren’t going down today.

Umpires warming up? Must be a serious game. We began. It was pretty even whilst we got used to the pitch and fighting the weather. It was RAINING MEN. We could have done with UMBRELLAs.

Wisbech, with the home advantage of knowing the pitch, had a break and scored the first goal of the game. However Dave’s Wednesday night training has taught us how to react when a goal down so Katie M got the ball in the 23, drove into the D and a first time strike saw in goal number 1. Easy.

Wisbech came back and managed to tap in a second goal. This was probably when it started snowing for a bit. However pushing hard passing purple to purple, we managed to gain a short corner. Once again Katie M, SET FIRE TO THE RAIN, lifted the rebound over the keeper and thus securing her well deserved MoM.

We weren’t done though. Up into the D we went again where Lucia got the ball round the goalie, ball was stopped on the line by a defence woman, Saz got it and tapped it in!!

Half time. Umpires warned us:
- No more appealing to umpires.
- No more stick tackles or you get a card.
- No pushing or you get a card.

Second half was a different ball game. Stick tackles, aggression and both teams wanting 3 points. However through the downpour the umpires did manage to see fouls by us. MoM Katie M received the first card for appealing. As soon as she was back on Saz got her first card ever for a stick tackle, which when asked for comment she said it was very exciting. Pretty soon after that Izzy got a green for shoving. CRY ME A RIVER. Towards the end of the second half, Wisbech did get a warning about shoving.

Despite frozen hands making it hard to get a grip on our sticks we managed to hold off Wisbech in the second half and earning 3 points. It wasn’t the prettiest of games and we were cold to the core. With 3 points in the bag, we went away SINGING IN THE RAIN.

Wet? Very
PURPLE RAIN? Purple Reign.
Hotel? Trivago.

*Izzy Macdonald-Parry was in fact voted lemon by the team. Heard to say: “I’ve had enough, I’m not playing anymore.”

**Just to note to all. I didn’t sleep in, I was only 10mins late to meet my lift in Cambridge. Those stories made themselves up.
