First and final friendly

Due to the previous two friendly matches being cancelled this was to be the L2's first and only friendly to prepare them for the season to come. A mid-morning start saw the ladies heading south to Hertford for what was expected to be a tough, well paired match.

Once arriving at the pitch, the girls faced a few hiccups with no changing rooms, so we joined the swim class to get changed and for a moment looked like the game was to be played with cones as the goals were padlock to the side of the pitch. However, the rousing talking from Jenny and Nic to HAVE FUN and enjoy the game brushed off any dust on the L2s and they were ready to rumble.

The first half showed promise for the girls with some great play along the wings and some lovely triangles through the midfield. The defence stood strong with some scrappy goal line stops; it was South who got on the score line first with a short corner goal from Jess F straight strike.

Team talks at half time brought up few key things to work on, including a reminder to both Sophie and Rhi that your stick should stay in your hands and not be chuck on the floor. The girls also discovered that Tabby’s laundry system had become too challenging recently so was not wearing her South kit; taking your laundry down stairs to get washed by your parents is very tough!

With the second half whistle blown the girls were ready to show Hertford why they will be worthy of promotion this season, and be in Div 1 with them. The defence stayed strong throughout the match with Jenny throwing some great aerials which opened up space for the girls to work into and fabulous drives down the wings from all at the back enabling South the keep a clean sheet and get Boo her sweetie money for the week.

The midfielders fought determinedly through the middle to get the ball when lost and rolled out of some great physical fights resulting in a range of different MoM votes. The forward link-up plays between Jess and Juliette resulted in another goal from a back post tap in. A final goal came as the game was coming to an end as Juliette ran the ball into the D and precisely placed the ball into the back of the net.

A great win for the girls, 3-0 with Boo awarded MoM for some fabulous saves and LoM, for the first and most probably not the last time, went to Rhi, who only fell over once but did almost pick the ball up instead of her stick when dropped earlier in the game.
