Tamagochi's Day Out in Kettering - a Poem by Rhian O'Connor

Rhian O'Connor

Sitting here on a Sunday with a bit of time,

I thought that I’d kick the second half of the season (ish) off with a rhyme.

The day started off with the thought of an away day at Kettering,

A day we, or I, thought would end with a battering.

Top of the league they are you see,

But they weren’t a match for the CSHC L2s hehe.

But before we get into the juicy details of the match,

The day started with a belated Christmas brunch.

A postponed festive event,

Saw this morning very well spent,

There were waffles and pancakes and bacon - so salty,

And some leftover salad which I had plenty!

It finished off with a game fit for a thief,

And when the clock stopped a sigh of relief.

A joy from my childhood I had in my hands,

It surpassed all of my Christmas demands!

A Tamagotchi I had you see,

My face filled with so much glee,

And here, oh dear, is why I write this report,

It does seem I am not the mothering sort.

A near miss, an almost death was averted,

In the changing rooms I realised my poor pet had almost departed.

Still we pressed on, Nic’s lucky underwear was donned,

For the game began at two thirty as decreed on Spond.

The first fifty-seven seconds came and went with a flash,

All over, goal scored, finished off by Jess with a smash.

Whistle blew, push back, taken so sprightly,

I don’t think Kettering were ready for us to be so mighty,

From Jess to Jenny, and Jenny to Soph,

We left Kettering behind sitting like a loaf,

Before we knew it, we were at top D,

A might tennis shot from Jess and we were all jumping with GLEE!!

Oh no, oh shucks, damn, blast, and poo

Kettering equalised shortly after – Boooooo!

We knew we had to pull our socks up and keep going,

If we were going to end this game winning!

Our next bit of skill came at twenty-five minutes,

As we proved ourselves to all of the cynics.

A beautiful transfer and roll out from Tabs,

And a quick little reverse pass from Jess to Anna so fabs,

We all looked on as she ran backwards past the keeper,

We held our breath, and bam, goal number two - oh jeepers!

A great bit of skill and calm concentration,

A fabulous debut for Anna, even playing out of her preferred position.

Goal number three was a work of magic for me,

A masterclass in decision making from our two skippers you see,

We set up for a short, ready for a drag flick,

But quick thinking from Nic as she picked up her stick,

A hearty slap into the D to Tab ready and waiting,

She stuck out her stick – what a textbook go at deflecting!

The ball flew through the air into the goal so speedy,

Cat like reflexes past a nose, quick thinking from Maddy.

A final shout out to Boo our player of the match,

She really is such a fine catch,

Oh where, oh where, would we be,

Without her amazing keeping skills – I wouldn’t like to see.

What can I say other than this team is a dream,

Sitting at teas all smiling like the cats who got the cream.

A mammoth effort from all who played,

I can’t imagine a better team to be in – SLAY!!

Lemon of the Match

Rhian o Connor is my lemon for today, for forgetting to sub at the line of half way. Also got a tamagotchi at brunch and had nearly killed it by tea time
