The morning started well, a few of us overslept but we all made it, some hungover, but we made it. (even if we were slightly drunk still). First workout of the day, move those bloody goals, I hate the goals but superstrength and a bit of struggle we were all sorted ready for the game.

‘I have a good feeling about this’ – says Fliss despite having too much rose the night before.

‘I don’t, I need a wee and I want to go back to bed’ – says Mia after her week away abandoning us for her boyfriend and an Iceland trip.

We had 15 and we were raring to go, apart from Mia who was still struggling to understand the subbing plan and having a panic at the thought of being a midfielder. Whistle goes and in 2 minutes we had 2 shots on goal! Oh wow. This is looking good. We had some beautiful play from Fliss, Vinnie and Lou in the midfield with Esther, Nicky and Pedzi constantly driving it into the D with some unlucky misses.

Our defensive wall of Sarah, Ruth, Elly, May and our fabulous goalie Claire were not letting anything get past them despite Ely’s hacking and Elly (honestly rough much..). Then the start of the Ice Pack shenanigans started when one Ely member went down for a ball to the… head? I didn’t really see it was somewhere on her face but we were ready with icepacks to the rescue. Then Mia decided she wanted to go for a slip-and-slide trip with the Ely player across the floor, which almost earned me LOM but someone outshined me (more on that later)

0-0 half time but Haribos to the rescue we were feeling good and coach Chris gave us some great advice and we got ready for the second half. We had the lovely support of the 5’s cheering us on. Second half Eleanor and Georgia had some fantastic runs and then Vinnie scored!! Her first goal for South, then 3 minutes later, she does it again!! Absolutely fab and rightfully earned her POM. Alice was working hard as always getting right round those Ely defenders. 2-0 up, very happy.

Then injury strikes again for Ely (I couldn’t tell you what happened, but she was on the floor and the game stopped) and we had a quick team talk to stop injuring Ely but carry on with the enthusiasm. Claire was enjoying a leisurely lie down in goal while all the ice packs were being dispersed, safe to say she had quite a quiet second half but got a great view of the game! May also took a tumble but it left a beautiful bruise and cut that’s probably gonna go down the whole of her thigh but she carried on like nothing happened… what a trooper!

Mia was put into midfield for the second half and guess what… she scored! The ex-goalkeeper turned outfielder scored her first goal for South! She also let out a very very big cheer and her gum shield fell out from the excitement… but we won’t talk about that.

Eleanor earned her first green card!! Beautiful play all game but she became our lemon for today for the green card send off, but she smiled the entire time so that’s all that matters (check our Instagram @cshcladies6 for photos of our wonderful lemon crown).

Well that about does it we left very happy, had a lovely teas and are ready for the next game against St Ives’s… well done ladies!
