M3 2-1 St Ives Mens 3

Ben Lye

I nearly bought a house in St Ives once. Big house, lots of space, but a few problems. The living room
with ensuite shower was just weird, but the biggie was that the sub-floor hadn’t been compacted
properly when the house was built, and the entire ground floor had sunk about 30mm from where it
ought to be. Also, the vendor was crazy. Buying that house would have been the worst
decision I’d ever made in St Ives. Until today.

First half – we played some hockey. Joe scored, Jonny hurt his head, and St Ives scored, but the half
was no doubt defined by my superb save denying the St Ives’ drag-flicker any reward from their first
short corner. Other hockey-related things also happened, but mostly at the far end of the pitch, and
goalkeepers don’t really worry much about what goes on up there.

Second half, much like the first – something like hockey occurring mostly in St Ives’ half. Gando
scored, Shin got a card, I saved a goal (definitely not with the back of my stick), and Ben B. put in a
man-of-the-match performance up front. My action in goal once again provided the defining
moment of the half, if not the match. Really no need to say any more.

We left the pitch ecstatic triumphant jubilant relieved with our 2-1 victory and looking forward to
using the Christmas break to reflect on the first half of the season and rethink some recent tactical
choices.

PS. Has anyone seen a black hoodie??
