A promising start
Cambridge South 4's took on Peterborough 4's in a match filled with drama, tension, and a touch of comedy. The final score was 3-1 in Peterborough’s favor, but the story of the game was anything but straightforward.
Peterborough struck first, sneaking a goal past our defense, but that only served as a wake-up call. Enter Jack Chalk, who danced through their backline like a man possessed, slotting home a stunning equalizer. It was the sort of goal that makes you want to rewind and watch it on repeat—if only someone had been filming!
The defensive unit, led by the trio of Shin, Danny, Pash, and Phil, then put in a shift that can only be described as heroic. Shin was a wall, blocking everything Peterborough threw at us, while the others seemed to have octopus-like reach, cutting off passing lanes and making key tackles like their lives depended on it. For a while, it seemed like nothing was getting through—until, of course, it did. Peterborough managed to grab two more goals, despite our valiant defensive efforts, leaving us on the back foot.
The second half saw Cambridge South 4's come out swinging, with some silky passing hockey that left Peterborough chasing shadows. The ball zipped around midfield. Ali had a strong performance earning him Man of the Match—minus one minor hiccup. A pass from a 16-yard hit sailed gloriously off the pitch to no one in particular, earning him Lemon of the Match. To cap it off, Ali also yelled “Creedy!” at Jim Hall, clearly discombobulated by Jim’s new flamboyant trim.
We may have lost the match, but we left with our heads high, some great defensive plays, plenty of laughs, a great start to an exciting season of hockey. Final score: 3-1.
