M2 1-1 City of Peterborough Mens 3
Charlie MorrisSouth were ready to face off against our mid table rivals Peterborough city. A slow start saw the Cambridge backline weather the storm conceding several PCAs. Alec Alston was sent for a brief stint in the Sun bin for delaying the restart. With the momentum all against us, Peterborough were able to string together possession taking the ball out to the right. Their striker struck it well beating George and getting Peterborough on the scoresheet.
South fought their way back in to the game, the affair becoming an end to end battle. Counterattack going both ways, Charlie Morris was green carded for a cynical recovery tackle. By the time the half time whistle came south walked to the goal with heads held high hungry to get back into the game.
The second half began swiftly with a very fluid passage of play leading to a D entry and a chance falling to Ed Creedy. Low on his reverse Ed’s shot is deflected from close range by a defender into the path of a second Peterborough player who kicked it past his own keeper, levelling the score.
On a high south kept possession well and created further chances. Midway through the second half south won a string of PCAs with flicks being saved and crosses and flashing wide of the post. Unable to get ahead while fending off Peterborough counter attacks Cambridge battled to the final whistle with the game ending 1-1. Man of the match for composure and creativity going forward was Nik Patel our guest from the M1s. This week our Lemon was Alec Alston for collecting himself a green card after 5 minutes of play.
