L6 0-7 Cambridge Nomads Ladies 2
Pedzisai GororoIt was another early start for the Ladies 6 playing against the Nomads. Due to no Goalkeeper allocated to the L6 Pedzi a long time forward player was drafted in to be the teams GK for this match. First minutes commenced with L6s playing without a keeper as Pedzi was late but L6s played brilliantly defending any attacks protecting the goal like their lives depended on it. Coach Chris on the side line with Lou the captain constantly motivating the team and ensuring they maintain a zero score. Goal keeper was subbed in and you could clearly see the relief and joy on L6s faces. The game was now more even and the L6s didn’t waste time showing that they wanted to score. The defence line comprising of Astrid, Laura, Sarah and Freya made it incredibly difficult for the the Nomads to penetrate. Nicky S (CF) who has come back with exceptional fitness this season would regularly drop down to assist mids and defence tactfully snatching the ball from our opponents passing the ball to our forwards Alice and Hattie who were ready in position and waiting. Nicky S would then run up into the D and attempt to score. The forward line with Alice, Hattie, Meg and Nicky S were beautifully positioned waiting for that opportunity and when it arrived they wasted no time driving the ball and attempting goals. Even winning a short corner to help us seal the deal but unfortunately a good attempt was made but missed the goals. We had some brilliant midfield play Lottie, Amy, Rosie and Molly who did everything they could to drive the ball forward for scoring as well as coming back to assist defence in clearing the ball. Shortly after the Nomads scored but this did not dampen L6s spirits, they pushed on tried to score and defended against opposition scoring till half time, it was only 1-0. Coach Chris gave the team a pep talk highlighting the good, bad and what could be improved on. After some treats and hydration L6s got back into second half ready to give it their best. Unfortunately things went downhill from there on and it just seemed the Nomads had become unstoppable scoring again and again leading with a 6-0 victory at full time. Player of the match was close but Pedzi won for great saves, Hattie was voted for great ball possession, Astrid for awesome defending, Nicky S for being everywhere getting that ball back and delivering to forwards. Lemon of the match was also Pedzi for having a flat tyre leading to her being late for the game leaving the team to start the game without a goalkeeper. Honorary mentions for the lemon vote were Amy and no reason given, Lou the captain for skiving, Hattie for getting herself hit in the head by the ball and pretending it didn’t happen, and finally Lottie K for just not showing up.
