Cambridge Grand Prix
Harrison PeakAs the first half of the season is nearing its end, so is the end of the 2024 formula 1 season. Budget restraints meant that Brentwood couldn’t make the trip to Qatar, so the race had to take place on the streets of Cambridge.
Let’s see the starting grid and their choice of vehicle.Starting from the pit lane:
Pearson- JCB Fastrac 2 tractor: No surprise with this individual missing qualifying. Turning up fresh from a morning on the farm, he means business.
Matteo- Hallomotor FC 1 e-bike: an interesting choice but Matteo is backing his knowledge of the streets. It is common knowledge the he can be found patrolling the streets on non race days.
Ozzie- Holden HSV GTS-R W1: Ozzie, Aussie, sounds the same, this one is from Australia. The most powerful of the range.
Scott- BMW M2: This is a versatile machine. It will be rarely seen at the front of the pack, but in this line up, more towards the middle and back. Gone for a purple finish…Starting from the track at the back
Stanley- Hummer: This car is a statement on any grid, you don’t want to collide with this car out on track, you will come off second best. Little further forward
Mark- Toyota Corolla GR Sport: As Mark likes to remind us, racing is his break from the hustle of family life. Mark has gone for sporty family car, just in case his wife organises something last minute.
Ed- Audi S8 with the Bang & Olufsen package: The music package for the music man. Ed was on the tunes and he did not disappoint.
Harrison- Vauxhall Astra: Not one to give much away, he brings is own car. Pretty slow so seems fair enough.Middle of the pack.
Will- Ford Mustang Shelby GT500: Know the logo? Know the man? Enough said.
Pudds- Mini Cooper Electric: No petrol no problem, this one runs off electricity. Small and agile but can still pack a punch in a fight. Not one to be written off.
Sam- Mercedes minibus: Sam is a teacher and gets a two week half term. He likes to spend this by practicing driving the school minibus. He’s wants to show everyone that it can be a fast and cool way to drive round the track.
Lindars- Monster Truck: Linders is all flair and he loves to put on a show for the fans.
Connor- Mitsubishi Mirage: Connor has chosen a vehicle for the full demands of a Grand Prix and more. As one of the most fuel efficient cars out there, Connor can take it for a spin before the race without the risk of running out of gas. Locking out the front row
Tim- Aston Martin DB5: This car has aged like a fine wine, just like Tim. There may be newer cars on the grid, but there will always be room for this one on the front row.
Harry- Nimbus 2000: You’re a wizzard Harry! HL7 has been on fire this season, cursing many an opposition. This is a suitable mode of transport for a man leading the way from the front.
The race:An early overtake from the S8 gave South some early confidence. Some more magic from Harry doubled the advantage out front. A crash at the back resulted in an early safety car from Brentford halting South’s progress just before the midway mark. Lots of close racing in the second half of the race with the JCB Fastrac 2 crushing all in its way to secure third place.
Driver of the day- Pearson
Fell off his broom - HL7
