Lazy I know but . . .
Mark WilliamsWith a mid table position secured, Bourne Deeping travelled to the 3rd placed team in the division looking to claim a formidable scalp as the season draws to a close.
However, Cambridge are up near the business end of the table for a reason and soon pushed back the visiting side who were forced to defend deeply as the back four were tested several times in the opening minutes. The Dragons' defence looked organised but stretched and were often forced into simply clearing their lines, struggling to build coherent attacks of their own.
Despite this Bourne Deeping were working hard and though the breakthrough was undoubtedly deserved when it did come, it took a penalty corner, drilled into the bottom corner, to finally break the deadlock just before half time.
A change in formation at half time saw the Dragons push 5 into midfield and the result was a much greater share of possession. Suddenly the Dragons were able to retain the ball in midfield areas and look to move forward as a unit rather than trying to hit their previously isolated forwards. Full backs began to push forward in support and the Dragons were finally working the Cambridge 'keeper. However, despite winning a number of penalty corners and having their chances from open play, Cambridge were still a constant threat and whilst Bourne Deeping will feel they were unlucky not to equalise, Cambridge will themselves feel unlucky that they did not increase their own tally.
