Another new combination of players set off for far away Bourne Deeping. We employed Cath's trusty 2-2-1-2-3 formation again and it worked well. South started well, with some great passing and movement. Emma was doing a fantastic job in centre midfield and getting balls up to the forwards. South's first goal came after Emma hit a great ball through into the D for Louise to deflect in via the keeper's pads. South won many short corners but couldn't quite convert any. After a scramble in the D with lots of people taking shots, Lottie managed to tap the ball in and we were 2-0 up by half time. Charlotte as right inner was working hard and making some fantastic runs up the line and hassling any Bourne Deeping players who tried to get past her, and there was some nice linking between Charlotte, Danny and the three forwards.

Bourne Deeping didn't let the scoreline get them down and came back strong at the start of the second half. South began to lose shape slightly but quickly recovered and kept working well. Louisa and Pip were dealing confidently with the attacks, and defensive mids Carline and Lottie working really hard as links to get the ball up to the attackers. South made good use of the press when the opposition had their hit-outs, often getting the ball quickly back into their D. A nice shot from Lottie made our third (and her second) goal. Our final goal came after persistent attacking - shots from Louise and Lauren were saved by the keeper only for us to try again with the rebounds, then the ball fell to Dani lurking in exactly the right place on the post who tapped it in.

Close to the end Bourne Deeping had a break and made it through the defence for a goal.

Overall an enjoyable and friendly game and a great team performance for a well-deserved win. Charlotte (in only her second game for South) won a well-deserved man of the match for persistent running and some lovely passes. Match tea was turkey stew with roast potatoes in a gorgeous country pub with an open fire and lots of Xmas decorations, another 5/5!
