Beware the Ides of March
Bex HawkesIt was a sunny day in the land of March where we decided to venture to play some hockey. The eleven most dedicated hard-core hockey players were present. Others fell by the wayside….but alas…we did not need help!
The first half was very chilled. Three sweet goals effortlessly hit the back of the net thanks to Sophie’s amazing finishes (this was when Jess first became worried about the looming threat to Goal Queen). March had some great chances, but thankfully Loopy was in great diving form saving some stunners for us.
For our team, who have become better behaved as the season has progressed, it was a quiet, fairly un-confrontational match. This also worried Jess. She need not have worried because soon there was a gruff “Robins!” from the umpire (and some Ross-from-Friends style hand gestures to pipe down).
The second half was equally entertaining.
Jess in her attempt to gain more goals slid across the D, taking the goalkeeper with her and only just missing what would have been a blummin' great finish! Instead, Sophie put three more effortless goals away……ah but Jess received an awesome pass through from some talented inner and polished off a goal to bring her tally to about thirty!
The midfield and defenders all worked tirelessly. I think every single one of us tried to mark no. 35 who managed to dummy us all on more than one occasion – we must learn this trick! March deservedly scored and the final result was 6-1. The team retired for some much needed rest, recuperation and changing of sweaty pants (Jess).
Overall it was a good game, good weather, good teas (OK Cath’s evidence of teas beat us but hey) with a good team! Bring on the next sunny Saturday hockey match!
