Is There an Elephant in the Room?
Dom NelsonAnd so we revisit a game against Peterborough that last time was a smash and grab win away from home with one shot on target. How different things were this time around...
After a delayed start due to the car travelling with the away team shirts breaking down on the way, with a strong side out South dominated the game from start to finish, in every aspect with the exception of the scoreline. So much so that the entire forward line was nominated for LoM for frankly not scoring more than the two we managed.
The first goal was scored on what must have literally been at least our tenth short corner of the first half, with a deflected strike sending the keeper the wrong way and creeping over the line.
The second came in the second half after a cool bit of composure and stick skills from Sickbed putting the ball past the keeper from a tight angle. At 2-0 we were comfortable. We pressed and harried looking for a third, but no matter what we tried or who had the final shot or pass, the ball wouldn’t go in.
Sadly, as they say in all sports, if you don't take your chances, you'll be punished and we were. A short corner began with half the back line looking the other way and ended with the score back at 2-1. No matter - we would score another five without issue, in the last three minutes. We had the chances to, but we're done on the counter by a goa...

Amazingly, we still had a chance to win it after this, but the ball never fell to a stick under control and we left the final game before Christmas feeling rather down that we had missed out on a great chance to get three points.
On reflection, one might argue that four points from six was probably more than we deserved out of the two fixtures based on our away performance, but it didn't feel like it at the time.

Passed, dribbled (in a good way), tackled and intercepted. Perhaps he is a left half, after all.

It wasn't cricket. Nor was it hockey. A combination of nifty footwork, sunglasses and an alarming lack of morals sealed the vote for the scorer of the equaliser.
