7 Important Facts
Laura LudlowAs South L1s were playing St Ives, the game was filled with goals and dives,
We started fast to make an impact and quickly learnt these seven facts:
- It's great to have Jess back on the front line. A few minutes into the match, a quick attack up the left wing culminated in a pass to Jess in front of goal, who spun the keeper and slotted through her legs to make it 1-0. South were off to a flying start!
- Lou C is making a bid for goal queen this year. They might do things differently in the States, Lou, but in the UK it's customary to put the ball in the opposition's net - her cheeky deflection wrong-footed Loopy and it was 1-1.
- Apparently there's an important rugby tournament going on at the moment? Nobody had told St Ives that Long Road wasn't Twickenham. There were elbows everywhere and a lot of pushing and shoving. Still South Ladies can give as good as they get!
- Kim can do the Prancing Pony even when she's not on the pitch, trotting up bare-foot in the second half ready to get on the pitch.
- Playing with "misty contact lenses" can be a dangerous thing, George - particularly when it leads to an inch-perfect pass to the opposition left wing, leaving her clear through on goal!
- Taking an interest in the optical health of the umpire is frowned upon. Georgie might have thought the umpire needed glasses, but he was able to see into his pocket well enough to pull out a green card.
- Serin is made of tough stuff. An innocuous bump with a St Ives attacker left the attacker out cold on the turf. That meant St Ives won a short corner, which they scored from leaving the final score 3-3.
So a frustrating end result, but a great team performance, some lovely passing (some of it even backwards or sideways) and if Laura could shoot straight, we might have come away with the victory. If only I could blame my misty contact lenses...
