If You Don’t Take Your Chances…

Jan Brynjolffssen

This was Long Sutton all over again. A series of bad decisions in possession in the final third, and a lack of composure in the circle cost the 3rds another home draw in a match we really should have won.

Bourne were solid in the centre of their defence, and did a good job of getting players between the ball carrier and the goal. Mostly we attempted to go straight through this area of strength, and whilst we did get the ball into the circle on enough occasions, it was nearly always scrappy, with people stretching for balls, or it deflecting around in a hard-to-control manner. Despite this a number of attempts went just wide, or were saved.

Our one bit of composure in the match produced our only goal, as Ed eschewed shooting on sight, instead drawing the keeper for a tap-in midway through the first half. This meant we were vulnerable to a sucker punch, and one duly arrived midway through the second half as Bourne’s only short of the day was clinically struck into the far corner.

A very frustrating game. And it rained, which, if I have understood emails during the week correctly, was all Framps's fault. He was lucky there were some other outstanding candidates for Lemon this week.

Hard working performance on the wings.

Took on the role of ballboy during a period off as a sub. Enthusiastically. Very enthusiastically. TOO enthusiastically. It is general practice to wait for the ball to actually leave the field of play before retrieving it!
