Battling Against Wind and St Ives

Laura Edge

Perhaps, far before the weather forecast was announced, members of the L3s knew in their bones that 21 November was going to be cold and as such had already made alternative plans. Sisters visiting, sickness, weddings and travelling all combined to make Ania’s job of getting a team together a tough one. Thankfully, her persistence paid off and twelve individuals made it to face the top of the table leaders.

Despite the brilliant sunshine that turned all the players into silhouettes, the wind chill made for a rather bracing ‘feels like’ temperature of -6 C.

Another new formation was attempted, which seemed to work rather well. It led to a few breaks that looked like they could result in goals, which kept morale high (in addition to the three bags of Jelly Babies at half time!)

Sadly, the L3s were rather outclassed throughout the game, ensuring Laura in goal kept toasty warm during the whole match. Many of the shots on goal were fantastically saved, ensuring the goal difference did not go into double figures and leading to a well-deserved man of the match.

Pasta, tea and cake rounded off an energetic morning, and were much appreciated.
