Not So Unlucky 13 This Time

Tom Steed

This very experienced City side had previously beaten South 13-0 at the start of the season. On the return match, South had a much larger and more solid team, with James Siddorns and Alan ‘The Rock’ Radford starting at the back and Stu Creed, Phil Harvey and Wilco in the heart of midfield.

'Captain Potter' (Steed senior), as I call him now, had organised a few changes. This involved him playing as centre forward! Making their South debuts, Dan Powell and Tom Rootsey came in to save the day as Captain Greaves called off sick.

Unsurprisingly, City came straight at us but we held our own. South showed our discipline throughout as City got frustrated and got into trouble with the umpire on several occasions. Our strong defence and midfield kept the score to a respectable 1-0 at half time, with City scoring a soft goal towards the end of the first half.

In the second half, City nicked another but South never gave up and kept hassling the opposition everywhere on the pitch. The Rock lived up to his name, getting hit almost everywhere defending the short corners. Credit to Tom Rootsey and Dan Powell for playing well on their debuts. Also, well done to Coops for keeping us in the match with some great saves.

Great performance, only losing 2-0 to a very strong City side. Maybe it was because we had a new captain and centre forward (Captain's note: But of course!)? Well done M4’s!

The Rock returns! An amazing performance in defence on his return to the M4s.
