Will the Real Jamie Vardy Please Stand Up

Unfortunately, after the long drive to Spalding, CSHC Men's 2s came back with nothing to show from what was overall a decent performance by the visitors.

It was clear that the home side were chomping at the bit to play, as they’d had a few weeks off due to weather-affected fixtures, and it showed in the initial exchanges. Early pressure resulted in a goal mouth scramble that lead to the awarding of a flick, which was dispatched well, CSHC one-nil down with barely five minutes on the clock.

The early set back didn’t faze the visitors who settled into the game well. Solid Jon was in the middle being solid and Spikey Mikey showed great defensive awareness and attacking prowess. Good runs up the top of the park by the forward three of Adam, Wizard and Dan were creating space for the midfield to push on. From the side line it looked good, we just weren’t able to find that killer touch.

After a prolonged period of pressure we finally had some reward. I honestly can’t exactly remember the build-up but it probably involved some/most/all of the forwards – but the ball came to Harry Chalk at the top of the D who calmly slotted it into the corner of the goal. One-one, probably a fair reflection on the play. However, after another short corner at the other end was well finished we found ourselves behind again…

Mention must go to Walshy for his lemon-inducing effort of getting a green minutes before the half time whistle – then instead of coming back on at the resumption decided to go water the flowers instead.

In the second half CSHC more than held their own but Spalding pushed on and grabbed three more goals. The CSHC elevens' legs got a bit tired, and with the incentive for them to force the game a bit spaces were appearing at the back. The clinical home forwards took their chances, a couple of short corners and a full pitch breakaway.

Overall 1-5 doesn’t sound good, our worse defeat this season, but Spalding took their chances well while we didn’t. However, the performance perhaps didn’t deserve it.

Oh well, on to next week to avenge ‘That Game’ against CoP.
