L3 2-3 Cambridge Nomads Ladies Development
A cold wet morning and a squad of just ten wasn't the best start for this game, but everyone worked hard to try and minimise the one-man disadvantage.
It was another new line up, with Kate and Lauren playing their first match. Laura immediately snatched the Lemon award even before reaching the pitch by turning up without her stick. Nomads had a few skillful players, including a particularly handy one who was wearing a Minion costume for some reason. "Mark the Minion", is probably not something you hear a goalkeeper shout at their defence very often.
The defence had to work hard in this game and Loopy made lots of impressive flying and diving saves. We were struggling to get through the Nomads' press at 16m hit-outs, but kept persevering. Liz was running her socks off in midfield and up front, chasing the ball at every opportunity. Nomads had more of the attacking play but there were a few good breaks from South with excellent running and positioning from forward Lauren.
Eventually there was success in the second half, when a perfect cross from Liz reached Louise, who found the gap between the keeper and the post. 2-1. Nomads scored again very quickly after the push back. The second South goal was a bit lucky. Louise and Kate found themselves in the D against one defender and the keeper, who made a blunder and left both South players chasing the ball which was heading slowly towards the goal, and it was Louise who managed to touch it in. A fair result.
