'Vaseline Prevents Babies, Right…?' (Naomi Penfold, 2016)

Hoping to build on last week's success, the L2s were optimistic when arriving for a 3pm pushback.

After some discussions about the press formation we were off, with Jack running the subs bench.

In the first half both teams were quite evenly matched, with lots of pressure on each side. A highlight was Lauren's goal, which came after some good passing out wide. The last ten minutes of the first half ended with some great South play so the half time jelly babies were well deserved.

The second half saw increased pressure from the Bury team. There were some opportunities for South but a couple of shorts were well defended by Bury and could not be converted to goals. Three Bury goals went across the South line, with some confusion on the goal line for one which may have resulted in an own goal! Nonetheless, everyone pushed hard for the half with many tired South bodies by the end.

In a tactical decision last seen during the Olympics, the game finished with eleven outfield players for South following the substitution of the keeper (Lydia, in her first L2s appearance) with less than five minutes to go. Unfortunately, South were unable to capitalise on the extra outfield player to score again but great defence at the back saw the ball stay away from the South goal too.

A disappointing result but several development points for next week and great commitment by all in what was a tough game with lots of Bury pressure.

Playing in her first hockey game in three years with great play throughout and especially good pressure on the ball.

Subbing the goalie in the last minute when we were two goals down ... #Optimistic #LikeBeingAtTheOlympics. A special mention for Naomi's dubious sex-ed knowledge too.
