A Rainy Day
Emma-Rose Smith12th of November…a rainy Saturday morning, in which the first arrivals from the Cambridge South second team were left stranded outside a locked changing room!
We managed to eventually get into the changing room to discuss our pre-game tactics. Our team looked strong today and we went out confident.
We started the game well, with the ball staying high up the pitch for the majority of the half. Brilliant dribbling from Louisa up the left wing allowed the ball to be crossed into the D on numerous occasions; however, still no goal. New striker, Roisin, took her chances various times but was rewarded only by the keeper’s pads. According to our sideline-subber, Jack, it took us thirty minutes to win a first short corner and unfortunately Izzy’s cracking hit didn’t see the netting just yet. Finally, we were rewarded with goals by Eimear and Lauren before the interval. The score line, however, did not reflect the possession retained by South throughout the half!
After being refuelled by jelly babies, South again came out strong and soon after we had restarted, Louisa scored a goal at the far post. We managed to start playing attacking hockey and lots of the defenders stepped up into new territory. Ellie, on the right, stopped various counter attacks with her block tackles, which enabled us to keep searching for goals. We ended the game three-nil and the amount of different people voted for MOM truly reflects how well the team played as a whole. There was a tie for Man of the Match between Izzy and Louisa, who wanted to fight it out at teas… Lemon nearly went to Ellie who encouraged the entire team mid-game with the best innuendo of the season: “The balls will come, girls!"
Overall, a brilliant performance from the Twos.

For being late (stopping en route for jelly babies) and leaving the team locked out in the rain - sorry guys!
