Panic, What Panic?

John Greaves

A close-run game, with the home team grabbing the winner near the end. Both goals from Paul South.

It was St Ives who took the lead, an unstoppable short corner thunderbolt, but that man South equalised for the South shortly after with an age-defying run and feint (that's feint…not faint) ending up with a confident shot past the otherwise immaculate St Ives keeper.

For the middle part of the match Cambridge South were showing disturbing signs of panic, leaving behind their familiar committed, passing, joined-up game, with too many passes made too late or going astray and losing the width. Although man of the match Ash Dookun did his level best at the heart of midfield to show team mates how it should be done, tackling effectively, passing early, encouraging those around him throughout. Otherwise, St Ives were dominating the play but the defensive Rocksters prevented further damage to the scoreline.

Luckily, the home team rediscovered their 'A' game towards the final quarter of the match, with some delightful flowing moves , often through the typically effervescent Peter Creed on the wing. The only goal of the second half came after a series of short corners, with Paul South again on the mark with a rasping effort arriving in the top corner of the net via a deflection or two from the defence.

The fourths are back to winning ways; now seven games unbeaten. Next week is second vs third in 6NW(S). No pressure.

Just pipped the Rock to MoM this week with some great work in midfield.
