Shaky Start but a Solid Finish
Heather BorsukWith an extended Christmas break due to frozen pitches, it's no wonder that South got off to a shaky start against top of the table rivals Ely. After a breakaway from their own twenty-five, Ely managed to slip a goal past South inside the first fifteen minutes.
South didn't let that knock their confidence though and some cracking work in midfield and upfront led to Ellie lobbing the keeper and putting away a much-needed goal to bring the score back up to 1-1. After that, some excellent work from Kim and Georgie allowed Robyn Murray to bring the score up to two-one, giving South some breathing room going in to half time.
South were on much better form after half time and some strong play from Flix on the right wing gave South several chances to put more goals past an increasingly frustrated Ely side. Alison then went on to secure victory by slipping the ball past the Ely keeper.
Ely weren't without their chances but some committed defending from Robyn, Lou and Emma meant that the score remained 3-1 at the full time whistle, even with Lou nearly giving away a flick in the final ten minutes by tripping up an Ely player in the D.
