South v Haverhill
Mel AksoyIt was a cold Saturday morning when the Cambridge South players stepped on the pitch, ignorant of the events that were to follow… The first half was strong, with great clearances by Serin up the pitch and Izzy pushing in what turned out to be the winning goal, but also receiving a ball to the head accompanied by Emma-Rose's self inflicted hit to the knee.
With a one-nil lead we proceeded to the second half where matters got very tense and heated, resulting in a penalty flick: everyone stood behind the twenty-five line, only Emma left in the goal to face the taker; tension increasing; everyone anticipating where the ball would go - BAM! Emma makes a great save with her right hand.
The second half was good, with great linked passes between our players although it got a bit hectic with players not knowing who to mark. We made it to the last two minutes of the match when Roisin collided with a player who was using her body to shield the ball from the incoming defender. Quote: 'I actually felt like I flied'. She still got the ball, earning her lemon of the match. What a trooper.
