South See Green at Kettering
Howard SteedFor our third encounter of the season with Kettering 3s we were met by a team clearly hungry for revenge! They fought hard from the pushback, giving the South defence and goalkeeper Andy Thomas plenty to do. It was the away team, however, who took an early lead with a well-weighted pass from Tom Steed finding Peter Creed in space. Creed's cross targeted Ash Dookun perfectly on the far post, who coolly completed the move by slotting the ball past the stranded Kettering keeper.
South began to dominate, winning a series of short corners. After several fruitless executions, a Tom Steed injection to ace drag-flicker Shahbaz Ali took South to the half-time break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Within a few minutes of the restart a well-aimed pass out of midfield found Shahbaz lurking on the edge of the opposition D from where he calmly 'pushed' the ball between post and keeper. Were we on a roll…? Alas not. A rare error from the otherwise solid South defence let Kettering back into the game. This was followed shortly by a second to close the gap to three-two.
Tempers on both sides were getting increasing frayed, with two South players (Steed Jnr and Dookun) receiving green cards! Despite this the away team held its nerve and consolidated the lead with a late goal from Alex Pashley.
Ash Dookun
For getting a green card and not making any attempt to leave the pitch.
Tom Steed
For upholding the Steed family tradition of getting carded at Kettering.
