Super-Striker Shahbaz Seals it for South!
Howard SteedA mixed and motley bunch assembled to face Nomads for the final time this season, with honours standing at two wins apiece and orders from Mr Greaves to exact revenge for the recent six-one thrashing inflicted on the M4s by our Cambridge rivals.
The makeshift M5s team made a shaky start, particularly in defence, leaving the opposition plenty of passing opportunities in the D which they eventually converted. Within minutes South had a short corner and star drag-flicker Shahbaz Ali stepped up to even the score. Nomads continued to make space in the D and, despite some spectacular saves from stand-in L2s’ keeper Emma Saynor, the away team soon regained the lead. The South attack and midfield continued to press hard and another short corner, expertly dispatched by our Mr Ali, gave us the equaliser we needed to keep us in the game.
First half umpire Douglas Gibson came on in the second half to shore up the leaky South defence. The effect was immediate, with the home side pushing forward with two goals coming in quick succession to secure a well deserved hat-trick+1 for our drag-flick maestro. Nomads managed to grab one back but keeper Saynor confidently stifled any further attempts to even the score.
So three wins to two to South over the season.
No doubt over the MoM…drag flicking at it's very best!
A well deserved LoM (Lady of the Match) to Emma for standing in at short notice and keeping us in the game with some impressive saves.
