Brian's Got Wind
Heather BorsukWith the momentum of the previous weeks’ performances, this Saturday the L1s took on mid-table Cambridge Nomads at the Abbey.
Despite the strong winds (cheers, Brian) we started off well, putting into practice the two-v-ones drilled into us at training. It wasn’t long before Kim did one of her classic runs into the D, defeating all the defenders to slot one in the back of the net.
Even with the one goal lead, the L1s kept up the pressure with great work from Robyn McLean and Hannah in midfield and the forwards winning short corner after short corner. Goals finally came before half time from Alison and Hannah, who couldn’t quite believe she had made it on to the score sheet.
Nomads came back fighting after half time with some great runs through into South’s twenty-five. Luckily for South, Robyn McLean put in some showstopper tackles, winning her Man of the Match and making sure that ultimately only one goal was conceded.
The match finished four-one with another goal coming from Robyn Murray, showing her skills in the D and slipping a perfectly aimed shot past the keeper.
Teas consisted of hearty chips, sausages and beans, topped off with a badger-themed goodbye cake courtesy of resident baker, Hannah.
