Men's 1sts lose to Peterborough Town 4

A new look Cambridge South 1sts squad travelled to Peterborough to take on a settled Peterborough Town. Early exchanges were fairly even as South looked to Raph Mis for inspiration upfront and he was unlucky not to win a couple of short corners. After ten minutes Town went ahead. The goal was scored from a penalty flick struck low to the goalkeepers left after determined South defence ended with the ball hitting a defender's foot on the goal line. Following the goal, Peterborough Town stepped up the pressure but were unable to convert it into decent chances and at half time the score was still 1-0.

South made pre-planned changes at half and pushed Jim Thorpe up into midfield and Richard Morgan stepped across into the centre of defence, where he put in a strong performance to show that he can make the position his own. A sweet attacking move from the restart saw South apply some early pressure by winning their first short corner of the match. However, nothing came of the short corner and the early second half promise was snubbed out by Town as South were forced to defend more and more deeply.

South had to put in a very determined defensive performance in the second half to prevent the Town pressure from telling and Chris Graveling put in a great performance as Sweeper, marshalling the defence and making numerous critical tackles. Despite South's gritty defence, Town got a well worked second goal from one of many short corners that their pressure produced in the last quarter.

South remain positive after the defeat and look forward to the new-look team gelling and fulfilling their undoubted potential. The defence looked far more settled this match and with no goals conceded from open-play, a platform has been laid from which they can improve their attacking play.
