A Nice Day Out in Wisbech…
Howard SteedOur furthest trip of the season, to Wisbech, was welcomed by bright sunshine and a warm breeze; a pleasant change from the typical horizontal rain and gale force winds!
The usual A14 chaos and fenland tractors resulted in keeper Michael and star M4s defender, Andi C, arriving ten minutes after pushback despite having left Long Road at the same time as everyone else, earning them several LoM nominations!
South started pretty much as we left off last week, putting the home team under immediate pressure with a Barton strike that ricocheted off the post within the first few minutes. It wasn’t long before RB opened his account with a well-executed short corner routine that resulted in a shot expertly not deflected by John G beating the Wisbech keeper.
The visitors continued to dominate, with plenty of scoring opportunities presenting themselves. It wasn’t long however before John G produced a trademark deflection from point blank range to beat the keeper again. Two-nil at halftime with everything working well including Rob B’s six minutes on/three minutes off substitution strategy thanks to some meticulous sub-management from Tom S on the side line.
The second half continued in a similar vein to the first, with keeper Michael having little to occupy him other than thoughts of how to avoid the tractors on the way home!
It wasn’t long before that man Barton was on target again (twice!) to earn a well-deserved hat-trick and MoM award.
A debut goal was a worthy reward for Jo D who dominated the wings with his pace and ingenuity throughout the match. Well done, Jo!
Despite several LoM votes for Andy T for not being there to do anything ‘LoM-worthy’, the clear winner was Sean for losing his normal cool and calm demeanour following a particular robust tackle.
So, the M5s juggernaut rumbles on with back-to-back victories, nine goals scored and none conceded. Nomads, watch out!
