Quite the Game

Harry Chalk often ‘makes thing happen’… but sadly not today.

Not quite sure where to start with this one… A super Saturday of fixtures of high importance gave both Bury and Cambridge South an additional edge worth fighting for.

Having started ~fifteen minutes late due to a missing umpire, Bury pressed early but couldn't convert anything, Stu, Paresh and Mariano blocking some tough forward play with Darren pulling the strings in goal.

South pushed upfield and went ahead with a well worked short corner, a left slip to Tom K being fired across the goal for debutant Sam to slot in at the back post. Sam, Tom, Joel and Harry fought hard in a highly contested midfield, with our strikers making the most of opportunities as they received the ball high.

Fair to say the second half opened up somewhat, with lengthy delays from confusion across the pitch and on the sidelines. In the middle of all the chaos:

  • Chalky picked up two yellows in quick succession from looking to retrieve the ball from the opposition who had run it off the pitch to hold up a break away, and secondly some tough tackling.

  • Stu got in on the act as the umpires blew up, citing twelve players on the pitch (carding the skipper on behalf of the team).

  • Paresh, Mariano and Bhav also picked up cards for some strong tackling close to goal.

Both sides pushed hard to convert multiple chances into goals, with Bury putting away two of their many short corners to steal the game with two minutes to go. Off to Kettering next week.
