I'm A Unicorn Part 2

Katie Gibson

An hour long break let the girls recover slightly before they took on the team from just up the road at Bury St Edmunds. Again, another strong side to face but this was the standard we’d need to play to this coming year if we wanted promotion. This game was a little slower as both sides were tired but fatigue didn’t stop Carly and Hannah showcasing their skills. After summers with less hockey than usual and bad knees, we’d never have known they’d had a break!

South played another attacking game putting pressure on Bury from the start and up the wing from half back Nichola. The game ensued and was tighter than the score reflects. Nik’s grip on the concept of dogsitting on the other hand was questionable and Maisie was let loose on the pitch for a brief minute adding some drama into the already tense game!  Sadly Bury’s strong attack meant they slipped a number past our goalline but an incredibly noteworthy MoM performance from Captain Robyn held them up repeatedly. One notable moment was when a Bury player came charging through the lines and Robyn charged in with THE PERFECT jab tackle at speed. Wonderful.

The day ended with a second loss for South but was a strong display of what the season has to hold. South are by no means an easy opposition after watching them compete with two of the strongest teams that they’re likely to face. So East League, watch this space!

Executive summary: we lost if you’re counting goals but won if you’re counting fun. For interested parties, Katie got the piece of table out of her leg with only minor surgery.
