Five Forward First Fast Goals

Rhi Davies

The L3s went out to this game with the simple aim to score some goals after Jan’s pre-match preview suggested a hard game was to be had. Hannah had already made her game a little more difficult ny arriving to the pitch without her shoes or stick - setting herself up LoM candidacy, much to the skipper’s relief. Both teams had played each other before, in a hard contested match last season, so both knew what they were expecting; well that’s what South thought. However, South were actually faced with a much more junior team than expected, which led to expectation of some fast & fit opposition players.

St Ives started the first half with some strong triangle passes along the wing. However, South were able to read the game well getting to the ball FORWARD FIRST FAST and were able to set on their first of many attacks into the St Ives D. No goal this time but the first of many short corners were conceded.

With some great attacking play South got their first goal from solid link-up play between midfield - Jas running along the wing - and attack, finished off by Irina for the first of her three goals. Tuffers managed the secure the 3s their second goal of the half from a strong, hard-hitting ball from the top of D. South finished the first half four-nil ahead after a final flourish of attack leading to Anna’s first goal of the season and Irina’s second of the match.

Simple team talk - captain present this time - was for the girls to keep going on as they were.

As the second half began it was clear that St Ives had switched to a more defensive game, setting the press early and optimising on their possession, testing the defensive line. However, with honorary mentions to Phoebe and Kirsty, who both got several MoM nominations, the girls ensured the ball was cleared out whilst Janette ensured all players were man-marked. Rhi came close to adding another goal to the scorecard, narrowly missing by defecting the ball on to the post. South continued to set their press, with Erin putting strong pressure on the opposition centre backs. Irina gained her third and South’s final goal of the game as well as gaining herself MoM, to finish the game 5-0.

Overall another solid game from the team, who enjoyed having pizza in the dry before zombieing themselves up for the evening’s social event.
