Three Goals from the 3s

Rhi Davies

The girls started the match off strong with lots of the possession and managed to get the ball into Royston’s D. Royston’s defence stood strong though, with their hard hitting ladies clearing the ball time and again. However, with a break in play from a ball injected into the D from Anna, Zara took her shot on goal. After several deflections from the opposition, the ball managed to find its way into the back of the net. South had their first goal of the match. One-nil!

Royston showed their threat with several quick balls from their defensive hitters to test the South defence. Hannah ensured that nothing was coming past her on the left wing, with Emma available on the other wing for the switch to then drive the ball back towards the opposition’s half. Hannah turned out to be her own biggest opposition, tripping herself up mid-run and gaining herself her second successive LoM. South continued to dominant the first half possession and with the keeper taken out of her goal, Rhi sat at the top of the D to ‘top bins’ the second of South's goals, to end the half two-nil.

As the rain began the second half whistle went, making the pitch relatively slippy, which lead to Hannah not being the only player to fall down onto the astro; the skipper spending her typical time on the ground.

Jas continuously drove the ball along the sideline, injecting the ball both into the D and to the player supporting behind, earning herself several MoM nominations. Debut player, Jess, continued to inject hard slap passes into the D, which unfortunately went the wrong side of the goal post. However, her persistance continued and she was awarded with her first goal for South from a hard hitting shot into the bottom left corner of the goal. Three-nil!

South continued to battle throughout the final minutes of the game. With Emma showing continued determination for South to get another goal, she was award with MoM.
