Tropical Newmarket

Emily Stevenson

I can’t write match reports so here’s a poem instead – not as great as the time I rhymed spectacle with testicle but anyway…

On a chilly Saturday morning
With hope there’d be no mourning
Facing top of the league
No sign of any fatigue
Feeling good about our chances
With good team circumstances
To Newmarket we proceeded
Our hopes not yet impeded
We started strong and dominated
But felt a little frustrated
Despite our best play yet
The ball couldn’t find the net
Though through our strong defending
Our chances ever extending
Oranges at half time
Feeling at our prime
After team talk from the skipper
We were all feeling chipper
We battled on through wind and rain
On wet and sandy terrain
And although we wanted more
Alas, we didn’t score
Katie was true to her name
Getting MoM for the game
For great defensive play
Hunting the ball all day

LOM goes to Emily for forgetting where she left her car (nothing rhymes with Emily or lemon)
