Cambridge South came out the victors in another closely fought battle against Louth.

The first half saw both sides trying to break the deadlock. Louth had the better of it with their dynamic midfield causing the Southerners headaches throughout. Their forwards could not make a breakthrough though, mostly due to pugnacious defending from Jim Yarrow and Adam Catley. George Toynton played his part in maintaining the status quo with some well-stopped shots from penalty corners.

South came out in the second half strongly and were rewarded with a goal, Jimmy Wood scoring from a tight angle. As the game continued Louth began to pressure more and drew level from a well-struck penalty corner. Both sides looked to gain the upper hand, South playing wide and Louth playing more directly, but neither team could find the net.

About ten minutes before the final whistle South pulled ahead, Jimmy Wood scoring again after being the first to react from a wayward cross. The goal opened the game and as Louth looked for an equaliser their defence became more ragged. Peter Creed made a surging run down the left wing before beating the keeper, and Jimmy Wood was on hand to seal his hat-trick and the three points for the home side.
