The M5s' Juggernaut Keeps on Rolling

Howard Steed

A brief match report this week, as I was paying even less attention than usual despite being on the touchline for the entire match!

Another strong turnout this week, with 5s regulars joined by M4s Rob B, Jan and Dan I-F, which saw the home team making forays into the Wisbech twenty-three from the outset, dominating the midfield and using the full width of the pitch. With Avi S and Tom S peppering the opposition D with crosses it seemed only a matter of time before South got off the mark. In fact, it was well into the first half before Tom S found space to push into the D and hammer one past the Wisbech keeper.

The onslaught continued but the home attack just couldn’t seem to convert anything, with Simon T uncharacteristically off target for which he earnt LoM (maybe skip the Five Guys burger before the match next time, Si!) The only consolation was that the away team showed little sign of getting anything past a solid South defence dominated by MoM Roland and Dan I-F.

Early in the second half, with the pre-match burger now fully digested, Simon T finally found the back of the net and that’s about all I can say, having retired to the changing room for a mid-match pee at the crucial moment.

Victory was sealed mid-way through the second half with a signature Rob B reverse stick effort that that left the Wisbech keeper stranded. A short corner blocked on the line by post man, Jan, stifled any possible fightback by the visitors. It could have easily been four-nil as Roland L raced towards the opposition by-line with John G waiting to pounce on the cross, only to be thwarted by the final whistle.

Another solid performance that keeps us right on track for the title. Next up: Kettering 4s!
