Men's 1sts beasted by Horncastle 1. The rest is silence.

The day didn't start well when Chris Baker unfortunately had to pull out due to illness. So ten brave men headed north to face Horncastle, always a strong opposition at home.

The match went much as could be expected. In the first half Horncastle had eight shots and scored six goals (one shot went wide, the other hit a player's arm). There were periods of promise as Francois Lemoine and Ryan Thomas combined well in midfield, enabling Alex Pooles and Veejay Agarwala to uncover weaknesses in the opposition back line.

A neat move up the pitch by South put Argarwala into the D and he set up Pooles for an exquisite finish. The goal came much to the surprise of most participants in the game. So 6-1 down at half time but not without promise. Unfortunately, the six goal comeback failed to materialise as Horncastle demonstrated much better ball possession in the second half and controlled the game for long periods.

Andy Bleach gathered in confidence as the game went on, making a couple of good saves, but it was only his third game in goal. The 3rd team stand-ins, Finn Johnson and Sam Carr, showed commendable commitment throughout. Francois Lemoine was full of running, Ray-Hay was solid as ever but the numerical disadvantage was insurmountable and South suffered a desperate lack of width.
